Proposition 65, officially known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, was enacted in November 1986. The proposition protects the state of California’s drinking water sources.

Proposition 65 requires business to provide warnings to California residents for products that contain even minuscule amounts of any one of the 800 chemicals known to the state to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.
Proposition 65 requires retailers, restaurants and entertainment attractions in the state of California to post this information as well. These warnings can be seen in hotels, gas stations, airports, golf courses, public buildings and stores throughout the state of California.
