Honoring family is at the heart of who we are, and something we strive to do every day of the year. Father’s Day gives us a special opportunity to celebrate the men who have guided, encouraged and shaped our lives. Whether it’s a father, stepfather, grandfather, uncle, or another important role model, father figures come in many forms, and today we honor and appreciate the meaningful ways they love and support us every day.
Being a good father means continuously showing up to love and support your children, and this Father’s Day, we want to recognize a man who has been the ultimate dad and the cornerstone of the Smith family. Clifton Smith, known to most simply as “Grandale,” has 92 years of cowboy wisdom and stories to share about ranching, rodeo, faith and family. Rodeo and ranching are a birthright that runs in the blood of this family; a legacy passed down from generation to generation.
The STS Ranch began as the Lazy S Ranch, founded in 1930 by Clifton’s father, Will T Smith. Clifton, an only child, came along in 1934, and began working alongside his dad at an early age. A lifetime spent ranching beside Will T, later known to Stran and his siblings simply as “Papa,” left Grandale with countless stories to tell.
Whether it was hunting coyotes horseback with greyhounds, or doctoring wild cattle out in the roughs, Will T was a man’s man - someone who embodied the grit, determination, and character that define what it is to be a cowboy. That passion he carried for the Western way of life has been passed down through his son, grandson, and great-grandsons, and will continue to be carried forward for generations to come.
At 92, Granddale remains active and sharp as a tack, often accompanying Stran and family to the ranch, remaining as passionate about the land and the cowboy way of life as ever.
The legacy of Will T and Clifton is the foundation of everything we believe in and work toward at STS Ranchwear. This Father’s Day, we honor these patriarchs and remind ourselves that our lives are shaped by the men who loved us, guided us, and taught us what matters most. May their legacy shine through all we do.
